They are the catch phrases of generations. Almost everyone has heard of them in conversation or seen them advertised in packaging. Fad Diets are as old as, who knows, but lets get to the point. Most of us want long-term health internally and good looks externally, so we follow what certain health experts and fad diet doctors words of wisdom (Atkins or South Beach). Heck, some of us try to keep eating what we like and pull frozen dinners out of coolers to pay a hefty price for a mincey meal. For creating long term weight loss, fad diets lose. And in long term ill health, fad diets win. Doesn't sound like a score I want on my board.
Let's look directly at the elephant in the room. The recent "low carb" diet, some said it worked for them. Let me explain that most people eating the "American Diet" are digesting way more carbs than they need to. It's the empty, sugary, salty and fatty ones that do the damage. So yes, if one followed the low carb diet they probably lost weight because they limited food intake, switched these carbs around or ended up hungry. The "fad" was that it was in sacrifice of overall health. And it goes out of style as fast as the next one comes in. Hey, at least we tried to change something, right?
Right. We want to know the truth to choosing a healthy set of foods or "diet". I applaud us for trying to do something! But we don't need to spend anymore time on mediocre somethings. We can start eating in a way that will do everything for us! Weight loss winning and all.
In the previous tab we talked about the studies on food, now lets talk about how you can detect fad diets in order to stay with the truth. And for the love of food, be happy and healthy.
sinulrization of nutirents
sticking to supplements
restricting if your hungry
eat anything you want, with in a point system
anything high fat, high sugar, high salt, high additive and preservative
focusing on one specific food group
or if what you are eating now is causing you to gain weight
if you eat emotionally on a daily or weekly basis
If you are eating the standard american diet (this is a fad too. Culture and time in history)
What you are eating now is causing disease or cancer now or in the future
So the real question that is burning in our mind, "Is it in our control today to reverse what we have done to ourselves over the past 10, 20, 30 even 50+ years?"
Now some of these things we all have tried through different weight loss programs. So I guess the definition of a fad diet is one, that if you go off it it, you will gain the weight back and two, you are not nourinsing yourself for the long term.If you are looking for a healthy, THE healthy diet, your at the right place. Mandi and I are not looking for quick fixes, but long term health. Hey, if it took us 20 years to get to where we are now, we might expect i investing a little time in our new way of eating to reverse the effects.
